About Somaliland

The Republic of Somaliland is a self-declared sovereign state in the Horn of Africa. It was previously known as British Somaliland before gaining independence in 1960 and briefly uniting with Italian Somaliland to form the Somali Republic.

Following the collapse of the Somali central government in 1991, Somaliland declared independence and has since established a stable, democratic government with its own currency, military, and civil institutions.

Despite lacking international recognition, Somaliland has made significant strides in democratic governance, holding multiple peaceful elections and transitions of power. The country is committed to modernizing its public services through digital transformation and e-government initiatives.
